Light a chalice or a candle. Settle into your chosen spiritual practice for a little while, until you feel your mind quiet down. When you’re ready, read aloud the following prayer. Then let yourself go back into the quiet of your breathing.

Sweet Mystery in our own hearts
and dancing in the space between us,
hold bright before us the truth of our unity.
We breathe the common wind of the earth
no matter where we live, who we love,
what language we speak.
We drink of the common water of the earth
no matter our skin color, how long we live,
the coverings we drape on our forms.
We follow the common paths of the earth
no matter our beliefs, how far we move from home,
the gold that we carry, or its lack.
May we live from these truths, our hearts open to the holiness all around us, and our hands turned always toward the common good.
